Abstract

Prevention is a fundamental component of health interventions, appealing to public health, physicians, and patients. More than 50 years ago, health prevention was classified into three well-defined categories by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA): primary: promoting healthy behaviors and eliminating the causes of disease; secondary: early detection and reducing disease progression; and tertiary: early rehabilitation and avoiding the consequences of disease.
